Artist Profile
Cobcobo (b.1983) Mandaluyong, working on painting, printmaking and woodcarving. He combines these disciplines in assemblages and installation, a good sampling of which have been viewed in venues such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Bencab Museum, Yuchengco Museum, Ayala Museum Megamall art center, Avellana art gallery, Mendez Art Gallery, Blu Room Art Gallery and other new and emerging alternative art spaces in Metro Manila.
Cobcobo’s Ethnicity, (a half Igorot and half Ilocano who has lived and studied in Mandaluyong City since his early youth) has its influence in the endemic and actuated tension apparent to his work. His art combines contemporary and transmedia approaches to traditional art practices, revealing an introspective interest in the critique and construct of a moral/ ethical re-imaging of what is endemic and prevalent in social and cultural practices.
Visual artist Joey Cobcobo, is a Cum Laude graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising from the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) in 2004 and presently an Instructor of Graphic Arts Printmaking and Painting from life in Fine Arts (FA) Department in the same University. In just few years, he has garnered a number of distinctions, including the Thirteen Artists Awards (2012). He was Shortlisted for the Ateneo Art Awards 2009, 2010 and was given Juror’s Choice of Excellency during the same year’s Philippine Art Awards.
Some of his select exhibits were held locally and as well in abroad such as Seoul Korea, Singapore, Australia and Vietnam
